What are clear aligners?

Clear aligners are custom-made for you to straighten your teeth. Unlike braces, the aligners are virtually invisible and fit comfortably over your teeth.

How do aligners work?

Each aligner shifts your teeth slightly, moving them horizontally and vertically and even rotating them when needed. Your aligners are engineered to use the right amount of force in the right place at the right time. When you change to the next set of aligners (typically every week or two) your teeth gradually move into position.

What are the benefits of aligners?

  • Unlike traditional orthodontic braces, aligners allow you to keep your gums healthy.
  • Proven results and predictable tooth movement.
  • Better fit, better comfort, more hygienic than braces and no food restrictions.
  • Effective for a wide variety of cases including those who have spaces between their teeth, crowding, teeth rotations, minor crossbites and minor deep bites.
  • Flexibility, removal of aligners whenever you want.

What is the treatment time?

The treatment range is 3-9 months with most averaging as little as 6 months. If you purchase the AcceleDent Optima low frequency vibration device then you can reduce your treatment time by up to 50%. Ideal cases are those that require minor to moderate tooth movement. You must wear your aligners for approximately 20 hours per day to achieve results. Compliance is critical.

Is the treatment painful?

It’s not much different than wearing braces. Both aligners and braces use light force pressure to move teeth. An AcceleDent Optima low frequency vibration device can help make the tooth movement process more comfortable and may potentially cut down on your treatment time by almost half. You can accomplish this by using the AcceleDent Optima 20 minutes twice daily or chewies which help facilitate seating of your aligners. These chewies are included with your aligners.

Do I have to see a dentist or orthodontist?

There are no doctor office visits required. Aligners are mailed directly to your home. You must sign a consent form indicating you have been given a clean bill of oral health by your dentist. Our dentists or orthodontists will evaluate your smile to determine if UpSmiles can achieve acceptable results prior to fabricating your aligners. We always recommend getting a first opinion from a local provider as some cases may not achieve successful results without regular direct professional supervision.

Are aligners expensive?

UpSmiles is the first direct to consumer company to offer Flex pricing where you pay based on the complexity of your treatment. See our Pricing menu.
